What is an Albergo Diffuso?
The Albergo Diffuso is a "horizontal" hotel, an accommodation project rooted in the territory aimed at welcoming guests to the culture and community of the area.An albergo diffuso is, above all, a hotel and should be distinguished from other forms of extended accommodation. This means that not all forms of extended accommodation are "alberghi diffusi" (multi-building hotels).
Albergo Diffuso is an offer of Italian accommodation, conceived in the 80s in Friuli and defined as an original form of accommodation in the 90s in Sardinia and other Italian regions.
Albergo Diffuso is a welcoming "place", and is unlike any other 'non-places', for it is strongly rooted in the area and its culture, which are the basic foundations of the hospitality services on offer.
This system is particularly suited to old villages that have historical centres of artistic and architectural interest. Through this formula, these areas can recuperate old buildings, once closed and unused, and make the most of them, while, at the same time, avoiding problems related to tourist reception and the construction of new buildings.
